NAGHMEH MANAVI is a writer, performer, and theater maker from Iran. She studied theater at the University of Art in Teheran. Over the past five years, Manavi has explored the form of lecture-performances and documentary theater as both writer and director.
Manavi’s research as a director, writer, essayist, and performer carefully traces the intersections between political and personal issues. She enjoys approaching her artistic research topics broadly, working within different registers, and discovering performative experiences along the way. Her current work focuses on invisible oppression, decolonialism, and the study of political issues of everyday life.
In the context of MOUSSEM STAGES,(06-21.10.23) Manavi showcased a prelude to her lecture performance But, will I remember?, in the form of a video presentation. The artist will bring the performance to the Monty in Antwerp in May 2024 as part of their festival 'Beyond The Black Box'.
Naghmeh Manavi’s text The Possible has been published in the latest issue of Pages Magazine (which you can read HERE) and has also been presented at DAAD Artists Gallery in Berlin (2023) and at the Theatre Rotterdam festival (2023).
Manavi's work has previously been performed at Kaaitheater (Brussels, 2023), Kaserne Basel Theatre (Basel, 2022), BeReZe Performance House (Istanbul, 2020) and Zürcher Theater Spektakel (Zurich, 2019). As a performer, Manavi has also appeared in productions at Beursschouwburg Theater (Brussels, 2022), Points Communs Festival (Cergy, 2021) and Wiener Festwochen (Vienna, 2021).
