Youness Atbane lives and works between Casablanca and Berlin. His artistic practice starts from a critical relationship with the art world, its actors and its geopolitics. Atbane combines performative and narrative practices. Live performance, installations, photography and drawings are interconnected and dependent on each other.
With the support of Moussem, he creates the performance 'The Architects' in 2018, world premiere as part of Moussem Cities Casablanca. Moussem supported his creations 'Untitled 14km' and 'Immortal Object for a Dead Artist'.
Currently he is working on the project ‘The Post Decolonial Artist is Waterproofed’. Throughout this process he aims to question the impact of postcolonial theory on artistic practices and the dominant influence of art institutions. By utilizing fiction and futuristic imaginaries based on actual events, Atbane seeks to envision what he refers to as ‘Post Decolonial Art’. The performance The Post Decolonial Artist is Waterproofed pre-premiered at Moussem Studios on October 7, 2023, as part of the programming around MOUSSEM STAGES. More information can be found HERE.
