Bashar Murkus is a playwright and director and founding member of the Khashabi ensemble, a group of independent Palestinian theatre-makers in Haifa. His work is supported by Moussem and has been shown in Palestine, France, Belgium, Tunisia, Ireland and the United States. Murkus studied theatre at the University of Haifa, where he teaches acting and directing. Khashabi Theatre gives artists the opportunity to freely experiment and research and develop alternative forms of theatre.
In 2016 Bashar Murkus is artist in residence at Moussem for the performance 'Other Places'. In 2017 the theatre company is invited for a tour in Belgium of the performance 'New Middle East'. In 2019 a new residency is offered for the creation of 'The Museum'. In 2021, Moussem supported the performance 'MILK', which was shown at the Festival d'Avignon (2022).
