Hanane EL Farissi lives and works between Rabat and Brussels. She graduated from the Institut National des Beaux-Arts de Tétouan and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre in Brussels, and holds a postgraduate at HISK in Ghent. Her visual work, installations and performances are based on everyday, often homely objects and gestures, which are associated with women. The construction of the individual, what defines us and our memory, are at the centre of her artistic approach. She researches stereotypes and representations through various media. The artist also investigates the trivial or anecdotal to question the values that today determine our tastes and minds.
Hanane is artist in residence at Moussem in 2018 for the creation of her work for the group exhibition De liens et D'exils at the Villa Empain. In 2021 she presents her new project Destroy, and a time to start over as part of Moussem Gallery.
