OUM

Hals

Singer-songwriter Oum seamlessly weaves soul, jazz and electronic music together with traditional North African styles. Accompanied on saxophone and electronics by M-Carlos, she sings about the fate of migrants, the position of women and the endangered environment, while the subtle, balanced and powerful compositions and her wonderful voice radiate hope for a better world.

In this new programme, the duo brings an ode to seven emotions, rediscovered and run through during the pandemic. Fear, confusion, acceptance, dreams, hope, impatience and euphoria form the seven parts of Hals. Partly improvised, partly composed, with texts in Moroccan Arabic (Darija), French and English.

"I like the idea of building our own identity instead of being content with the genetic-historical-cultural heritage. And like in any creative process, change is part of the game, as are diversity, plurality and experimentation. Music transforms us, to bring us closer to who we really are." - OUM
